Biography

Dr. Sarah I. Kuo was inspired to pursue a career in dentistry at a young age as a result of her personal dental experiences and witnessing shortcomings in access to and affordability of care. As a Northern California native and graduate of St. Francis Catholic High School in Sacramento, Dr. Kuo entered into the accelerated dental program as a Regents scholar at the University of the Pacific where she graduated with honors in Biological Sciences and Chemistry in 2001. After studying abroad at Oxford University in England, Dr. Kuo received her dental degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, School of Dentistry in 2005. Her love of travel brought her to the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City for her general practice residency in dentistry.

Following that, Dr. Kuo completed an internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City as well as an internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Jacobi Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Kuo then began her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she underwent training in anesthesia, internal medicine, general surgery, trauma surgery, and facial cosmetic surgery along with her maxillofacial surgical training at two level-one trauma centers, Broward General Medical Center and Memorial Regional Hospital. Thereafter, Dr. Kuo again returned to New York City where she was chief resident in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center and Jamaica Medical Center.

After completing her training, Dr. Kuo practiced with a private oral and maxillofacial surgery group in Southeast Michigan for several years. During that time, she worked closely with the oral and maxillofacial surgery residents in the St. John Providence Health System program in the operating room, hospital inpatient floors, and in the emergency room. Dr. Kuo also taught as a clinical instructor in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department in the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Following this, Dr. Kuo practiced in Maryland with a dental specialty group prior to returning to her home state of California.

Dr. Kuo joined Sacramento Oral Surgery in July 2017. She and her surgical team strive to offer the highest quality care in a gentle and compassionate manner that always ensures the best interests of her patients. Dr. Kuo enjoys being a part of the team at Sacramento Oral Surgery. She finds it incredibly rewarding to be able to offer patients everything they may need to feel better. Her clinical interests include dental extractions, wisdom teeth, general anesthesia/IV sedation, dental implants, soft tissue and bone grafting procedures, facial trauma. Dr. Kuo is an active member of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS), American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CALAOMS), American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Association (CDA) and Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS). Certifications Dr. Kuo is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as a Diplomate, thus asserting her exemplary knowledge of the OMS specialty. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Kuo is committed to lifelong learning, keeping current in knowledge and skills, and practicing in a safe and contemporary manner. Interests Outside of work, Dr. Kuo enjoys spending time with family. She has a one year old daughter Kaia who is the light of her life. She also loves traveling, exploring, dining out, attempting to cook, baking, music, dance, theater, and physical pursuits.
